A replica weapon is a reasonable facsimile or copy of a weapon, even if it is not capable of discharging a projectile or substance, or a Category A, B or C weapon that has been rendered permanently inoperable or a hand grenade that is inert.
For Category A, B, C and H non-firing replica weapons, no weapons licence is required.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA

An imitation firearm is defined under the Act as an article of any material or colour that is a copy or reproduction of a firearm or has the appearance of a firearm and could reasonably be mistaken for a firearm.
You must be the holder of a firearms licence to possess an imitation firearm (other than a toy). The only ‘genuine reason’ to possess imitation (or replica) firearms is collection. You must have the licence of the appropriate category for the type of imitation firearm you wish to possess.

Northern Territory

- Under the Firearms Act NT, it is also illegal to be in possession of imitation firearms, such as gel blasters, airsoft, hydro blasters or gel ball firearms. Non-firing imitation firearms are prohibited under the Weapons Act NT.

Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

According to the republication of the Firearms Act 1996 (including any amendment made under the Legislation Act 2001, part 11.3 (Editorial changes)) as in force on 30 March 2023—a replica of any firearm (including a replica pistol, blank fire pistol, paintball marker, shortened firearm, machine gun or submachine gun), unless it is of a type approved by the registrar, is a Prohibited Firearm.
